After the 50th annual World 100 was postponed to 2021, Brandon Overton was one of 48 Late Models invited to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Thursday afternoon to compete in the Intercontinental Classic. Debuting in a honorary “Gamb4er” wrap for the Evans, Ga., Late Model pilot Ed Basey, Brandon followed up the second fastest lap overall in time trials behind Jimmy Owens with a 10-lap heat race victory. With three cautions slowing the $10,000-to-win preliminary feature, Overton slid ahead of Ricky Weiss following a restart at halfway mark of the 30-lapper and would go on to finish second behind Josh Richards with Weiss, Tim McCreadie, and Chase Junghans completing the Top-5 finishers. For another $10,000-to-win preliminary feature on Friday, Overton grabbed the fourth and final transfer spot in his heat race, which positioned him 11th on the starting grid for the show. Fading seven spots in the 30-lap affair, Brandon logged an 18th place outing.
With preliminary results from Thursday and Friday setting the grid for the heat races on Saturday, Brandon passed three cars in the 15-lapper to place second behind Kyle Strickler. Starting the $50,000-to-win Intercontinental Classic in seventh, Overton dropped five spots in the 67-lap affair to record a 12th place finish.
