Brandon Overton returned to action on Thursday evening at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Neb.) for the event replacing the annual Knoxville Nationals due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Drawing 46 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries for the I-80 Nationals, Brandon jumped up one spot in his heat to pick up the 10-lap victory. Starting the $7,000-to-win A-Main in 11th, Overton clawed forward two spots in the 30-lap affair to register a ninth place finish. (Todd Boyd photos)
The following night for another $7,000-to-win preliminary feature, Overton topped the speed charts in time trials before cruising to a heat race victory. Earning the pole position for show, Brandon set the pace for the first nine circuits until Tim McCreadie snuck by on lap-10 restart. Hanging onto a podium spot in the remaining 20 laps, Overton notched a third place finish behind Jimmy Owens and Tim McCreadie with Devin Moran and Darrell Lanigan Jr. rounding out the Top-5.
With preliminary results from Thursday and Friday setting the grid for Saturday night’s $30,000-to-win I-80 Nationals A-Main, Overton locked into the second-starting position for the 80-lapper. After slipping by Josh Richards for the lead on the sixth lap, Brandon eventually retired early on the lap 71 after slowly falling from contention throughout the race.
