The Georgian’s first-ever victory at the half-mile oval came aboard the Wells Motorsports No. 76 Crossfit Overton/ Allstar Concrete/ Longhorn Chassis by Wells/ Clements Racing Engine-powered Super Late Model.

“Hell man I’m excited. I’ve been wanting one of these alligators (Volusia’s unique DIRTcar Nationals trophy) for a long time so I finally get me one,” said Overton. “I’ve had the lowest of lows here, driving other people’s cars and my own stuff. I’ve never been really good here, so to finally get it, it’s a relief I’m telling you.

For the opening round of the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals, Brandon Overton was one of 51 Late Models on hand at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Monday afternoon for the $7,000 prize. Following the second-fastest lap in his time trial group behind Bobby Pierce, Overton secured his spot into the opening night feature with an eight-lap heat race victory. Locked into the sixth-starting position, Brandon faded one spot in the 30-lapper to register a seventh-place finish.

The following night for another $7,000-to-win A-Main, Brandon outran Rick Eckert in his heat race to pick up the win. Earning the fifth-starting position for the feature, Overton was unable to gain any ground in the 30-lap affair, dropping him to sixth when the checkered flag flew.

In a field of 51 cars on Wednesday as the remainder of the weekend shifted under the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series banner, Overton topped the speed charts in qualifying before scoring a runner-up finish in his heat behind Bobby Pierce. Rolling off seventh for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Brandon was running in fourth when another car spun around in front of him on lap 34, leaving him nowhere to go. His car sustained heavy damage but was able to walk away unharmed.

On Thursday evening, Brandon ran into issues with his rear-end housing in his heat that dropped him from the race. Charging from the tail of the field to pick up the win in his B-Main, Overton locked into the 20th-starting position for the A-Main. With $10,000 on the line, Brandon was involved in a multi-car tangle on the opening lap that saw him retire with right-front damage.

With the field reduced to 38 cars on Friday afternoon, Overton followed up the second-fastest lap in his time trial group behind Scott Bloomquist with an eight-lap heat race victory. Leading wire-to-wire in the 40-lap feature, Brandon cruised to his 14th career World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series victory and second win of the season over Devin Moran, Kyle Bronson, Chris Madden, and Rick Eckert. He took the checkers 2.887 seconds ahead of Moran to pocket $10,000.

“I dread … every time I look at the schedule and I see Volusia, I’m like, ‘God I suck there. I don’t want to go there.’ But we keep working on it and working on it and we finally got it. I just want to thank my crew. They’ve busted their butts. We tore up a motor and tore up a car. Kent, Steve, Ryan, and Britt … I’ve got a whole list of ‘em. There’s a whole group of people who help me do this and I’m just fortunate to keep getting to drive good race cars.”

Persistent rain overnight washed-out Saturday’s 50th Annual DIRTcar Nationals finale.
