Bad luck arises in Bristol Dirt Nationals

Taking part in the inaugural Karl Kustoms Bristol Dirt Nationals, Brandon Overton visited Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) on Friday afternoon as the famed facility covered the half-mile oval with dirt for a week full of racing. In a field of 55 Super Late Models, Overton followed up the second-fastest lap in his time trial group behind Kyle Larson with an eight-lap heat race victory. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Brandon faded back early from his fourth-starting spot and would eventually retire on lap 10 while running in 12th. (Josh James Artwork)

The following night, Brandon posted a runner-up finish in his heat behind Frank Ingram, which positioned him seventh on the starting grid for the $50,000-to-win Bristol Dirt Nationals finale. Unable to gain any momentum in the 50-lap affair, Overton withdrew from competition on lap 15.
