Overton enjoys two-win weekend in season opener at Golden Isles Speedway

Brandon Overton overcame bad luck in the opening round of the Super Bowl of Racing to sweep the final two rounds of weekend competition in his Wells & Sons Motorsports No. 76 Crossfit Overton / Allstar Concrete/ Longhorn Chassis by Wells Motorsports/ Clements Racing Engines Inc.-powered Super Late Model.

Overton pocketed over $27,000 for his Friday and Saturday night victories at Georgia’s Golden Isles Speedway.

"Man what a fun weekend," Overton said. "I just hate I didn't get things started on the right foot the first night we were here, but it is what it is. We'll take all we can get. My crew gave me a great car all weekend, and I can’t thank them enough. They all bust their tails to give me my best shot of winning every night. The track was great all weekend, and my car was fast anywhere I needed to go. We’re going to take a few days off to get ready for All-Tech (Raceway) and see if we can’t win some more big checks."

Wells Motorsports pilot Brandon Overton kicked off his 2022 season on Thursday evening at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) opener. Drawing 47 Late Models for the Super Bowl of Racing, Overton appeared to clock in fastest overall in qualifications, but his time was negated after officials penalized him for failing to meet the droop rule limitations.

Coming from the tail of his heat race, Brandon posted a sixth-place finish, transferring him into the B-Main for another shot at the opening night feature. Needing to place second or better, Overton passed six cars but missed a transfer spot by one position.

On Friday night, Brandon laid down the second-fastest time in his group before dashing to an eight-lap heat race victory. Starting the feature in fourth, Overton whizzed past race-leader Devin Moran for the lead on the lap 27 and dominated the remaining distance of the 50-lapper to capture his first win of the season and a $12,000 prize. Moran, Hudson O’Neal, Earl Pearson Jr., and Tyler Bruening completed the Top-5 finishers.

For the weekend finale on Saturday, Overton followed up the sixth-fastest time in his group with heat win. After tracking down race-leader Kyle Larson on lap 28, Brandon kept a charging Devin Moran at bay after a lap-44 caution to secure his second win of the season and 13th career LOLMDS triumph. He took the checkers ahead of Moran, Larson, Tim McCreadie, and Tyler Bruening to claim $15,000.

Action for Overton and Wells Motorsports resumes this Thursday-Saturday at All-Tech Raceway (Ocala, Florida) with three nights of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) competition. Weekend action includes $10,000-to-win on Thursday, $12,000-to-win on Friday, and $15,000-to-win on Saturday.
