Podium performance in North-South prelim at Florence Speedway
Brandon Overton was back behind the wheel of the Wells Motorsports No. 76 Longhorn Chassis Late Model on Thursday afternoon for the 46th running of the Sunoco North-South 100 weekend at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.).
Drawing 61 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries for a pair of prelims on Thursday and Friday leading up to Saturday’s finale, Overton laid down the second-fastest lap in his time trial group before picking up a heat race win. Chasing a $5,000 payday in the feature, Overton jumped up one spot in the 25-lapper to register a third-place finish. He followed Mike Marlar and Kyle Bronson across the line with Jonathan Davenport and Spencer Hughes rounding out the top-five.
On Friday, Brandon’s fifth-to-third run in his heat race positioned him on the fifth row for his $5,000-to-win preliminary feature. Losing one spot in the 25-lap prelim, Overton rolled to an 11th-place finish.
Rolling off third in his heat on Saturday based on preliminary results, Overton locked his spot into the $75,000-to-win Sunoco North-South 100 finale with a runner-up showing. Rallying from the tail after pitting on lap 59 while running 13th, Brandon salvaged a 15th-place finish in the 100-lap affair.
Brandon remains fourth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
